Family Lawyers on the Central Coast

Separation, parenting arrangements and property settlements, handled by solicitors who will tell you honestly what is worth fighting over and what is not.

Helping Central Coast Families Through Separation and Divorce

Separation rarely arrives as one clean decision. It is months of not knowing, then a conversation that changes everything, then a hundred practical questions nobody prepared you for. Where do the kids sleep. Who pays the mortgage this month. Whether you have to leave the house.

We act for people right across the Central Coast at every stage of that: the first quiet phone call before anything is decided, the negotiation, the consent orders, and court when court is genuinely needed.

Most family matters we run never see a courtroom. That is not us avoiding a fight. It is that agreements you help build tend to hold, and they cost a fraction of what a contested hearing does.

Why Central Coast Families Choose Ryan & Ryan

You get straight answers. If your expectations are unrealistic, we will say so early, while it still costs you nothing to adjust. Lawyers who tell clients only what they want to hear are expensive company.

We take family violence seriously and we understand coercive control does not always look dramatic from the outside. Krystal Johnson works with clients through domestic violence matters and brings that lens to how we run parenting and property files.

And we handle the parts that come attached. Separations bring property transfers, new wills, updated powers of attorney, sometimes a business to divide. You will not be sent across town to a second firm for those.

How Our Family Law Process Works

1. Get in touch

Call (02) 4397 1500 or book a time. You do not need paperwork or a decision made. A conversation is enough to start.

2. First consultation

We meet at Toukley or Erina, or by phone, Zoom or Teams. We listen to the whole picture, including the parts that feel messy, then tell you where you stand.

3. A clear plan and price

You get the realistic range of outcomes, what each path involves, roughly how long it takes, and what it is likely to cost.

4. We get it done

Negotiation, mediation, documents or court. We deal with the other side so you can focus on your kids and your work.

Family Lawyers Across the Central Coast

We run family matters from two offices, Toukley for the northern Coast and Erina for the south, and we meet by phone, Zoom or Teams when getting in is hard. When a matter needs a courtroom, such as an AVO or an urgent parenting application, we act across the Coast. We appear at the Wyong, Gosford and Woy Woy Local Courts.

Have only had a great experience with Tony and the team at Ryan & Ryan, whether it be with assistance and advice with the sale of my property or preparation and revisions to my Will. I find the service and staff friendly, professional and knowledgable, and the fees reasonable. Definitely recommended.

My experience on the day was incredibly informative, very personal, but in no way intrusive, quite the opposite. Indeed, the guidance throughout the interview was very, very helpful, broaching quite a few points that I had no idea about, of which I am most appreciative, I am so very glad I went to your office that day, thank you so much!.

Have been in contact with Ryan and Ryan solicitors for a few years. They helped my late step father complete his will , power of attorney and other documents. Sadly he passed away in December 2025. Alyssa and Lilley helped us with his estate and application for Probate. The process was explained well, it flowed efficiently and both Alyssa and Lilley remained professional, attentive and helpful. They responded quickly to our requests and enquiries. Big thank you for making a sad situation a little easier to manage.

Family Law FAQs

Usually not. Most matters resolve through negotiation, mediation or consent orders. Court becomes the option when there is urgency, a safety issue, or the other side will not engage. We will tell you which situation you are actually in.

There is no automatic fifty-fifty split in Australia. The court looks at the asset pool, what each of you contributed financially and non-financially, and future needs such as care of children and earning capacity. Two similar-looking couples can land in very different places, which is why early advice matters.

No, and they are separate processes. Parenting and property can be resolved well before a divorce is applied for. Just note that once a divorce is final, there is a twelve-month window to start property or spousal maintenance proceedings.

There is no default rule that children spend equal time with each parent. The starting point is what is in the child’s best interests, including safety. Many parents reach a workable arrangement with help and never need a judge to decide it. See our page on parenting matters.

Yes. Where a child’s safety, urgent living arrangements or the release of funds cannot wait, we can seek interim orders while the wider matter continues.

Yes. It affects safety planning, how and whether we negotiate directly with the other side, whether mediation is appropriate at all, and what we ask a court for. Tell us early, even if you are unsure whether what happened counts.

We charge for the first consultation and use it to map the likely cost of the next steps. Family matters vary widely because much of the cost depends on how the other side behaves. We will keep you updated as things move rather than leaving you guessing.

Talk to a Central Coast family lawyer before you make the big decisions.

Whether you have separated, are thinking about it, or have just been served with papers, the first conversation will tell you where you stand.
